What are the enrollment fees?

bulletEnrollment fees for Wichita eSchool are for textbook and/or science kits rentals and the purchase of related workbooks .
bulletAll textbooks need to be returned to the Wichita eSchool office at the completion of the courses or when the student leaves the eSchool program.  If books or other supplies are lost or damaged replacement cost will be charged.

How are credits earned?  Will credits transfer?

bulletStudents enrolled in high school semester courses for half (.5) credit will have one school semester to complete their coursework.  Students enrolled in full (1.0) credit courses will have one year to complete those courses.
bulletStudents may also earn credits for achieving proficient scores on State Assessments (.25 per assessment).
bulletWichita eSchool offers core courses in English, Math, Science and Social Studies.  At this time we also offer Spanish, Music Appreciation, Art, Keyboarding, Computer Applications, Computer Presentation, P.E., High School 101, and Community Service electives for high school. 
bulletWichita eSchool credit hours can be transferred to the high school where other electives are being taken.  The student may then receive his/her diploma from that school.
bulletWichita Public Schools will provide a transcript of complete courses for high school students who wish to transfer credits to another school.

Do I need to purchase a computer?

bulletEach family with at least one full time student, enrolled in 3 or more courses, is encouraged to borrow a computer and printer while enrolled in Wichita eSchool.  All equipment must be returned to the eSchool office in clean and working condition upon exit of the program. 
bulletFamilies are charged a $30 per year, non-refundable maintenance fee for the use of Wichita eSchool computer equipment.
bulletFamilies are responsible for providing Internet Service - HIGH SPEED (Cable or DSL) is highly recommended.
bulletFamilies are responsible for purchasing paper and ink tanks for the printer.
bulletIf you want to use your own computer it must meet the following criteria:
*PC with speakers and sound card
*Internet connection with web browser, preferably Netscape 6.0 or higher or Internet Explorer 6.0 or higher.  American Online (AOL) is not recommended.
*Adobe Acrobat Reader 6.0 or higher
*E-mail account
*Microsoft Office XP or higher including Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Access

What are the responsibilities for a family enrolled in Wichita eSchool?

bulletAll enrollment paperwork will need to be completed before Orientation Day each fall.
bulletFees will need to be paid for the rental of  grade level textbooks, workbooks, and science kits for the school year.
bulletStudents will need to take all district and state assessments for his/her grade level. **Note: This will usually mean 2 or 3 different assessments per student during a school year.
bulletAll students must provide documentation of work for Official Attendance Day in September of each year. 
bulletAttendance monitoring.  All children will need to spend 186 days (6 hours per day) or 1,116 hours per year doing school work (grades 1-11). We will ask you to fill out a form documenting time spent doing school work each quarter.
bulletHigh School students must attend mentor sessions regularly. During this time students will meet with their mentor teacher and participate in a variety of activities including tests, quizzes, labs, etc. 
bulletProviding Internet access.

What are the special programs that Wichita eSchool offers to families?

bulletAll Wichita eSchool parents will have access to our Parent Teacher Resource Center @ 412 S. Main.  The center is a wonderful resource for creating lessons and projects at low cost.
bulletAll Wichita eSchool parents may use our Library Resource Center @ 412 S. Main to check out library materials.
bulletWe partner with Arts Partners, a community group who provide hands-on arts related experiences for students and learning opportunities for parents.

How do I enroll?

bulletContact the Wichita eSchool office to request enrollment forms.
bulletFill out the grade appropriate application form.
bulletRead and sign the Parent Agreement.
bulletParents and Students must both read and sign the Acceptable Use of Computers policy.
bulletStudents must read and sign the Student Agreement

How do I get help?

eSchool welcomes parents and students to utilize the wealth of support available from our office.  Feel free to contact any of our support staff by phone, e-mail or in person at Joyce Focht Instructional Support Center, 412 S. Main.

bulletShawn Morris is the Administrative Coordinator for Wichita eSchool.  Shawn has been with Wichita eSchool since inception and can  answer questions about all aspects of the program.
bulletConnie Clasen is the Assistant for Wichita eSchool.  Connie has also been with Wichita eSchool since the program started.  Connie can answer your questions about enrollment, textbook rental, online courses, assessments, staff information,  and much more!
bulletLeigh Miller is the Online Curriculum & Instructional Specialist for grades 5-8.  Her office is in the Wichita eSchool office, room 215 at Focht Instructional Support Center.  Her office hours are Monday-Friday from 8:00 am - 3:30 pm.  Leigh will host a variety of parent and student activities throughout the year, watch for dates and times to be posted.
bulletJulie Wilks is the Online Curriculum & Instructional Specialist for grades K-4.  Her office is in the Wichita eSchool office, room 215 at Focht Instructional Support Center.  Her office hours are Monday-Friday from 8:00 am - 3:30 pm.  Julie will host a variety of parent and student activities throughout the year, watch for dates and times to be posted.
bulletDennis Tabor is the Online Curriculum & Instructional Specialist for Science and Health.  His office is in the Wichita eSchool office, room 215 at Focht Instructional Support Center.  His office hours are Monday-Friday from 8:30 am - 4:00 pm. 
bulletCameron Ceradsky is the Online Curriculum & Instructional Specialist for English.  His office is in the Wichita eSchool office, room 215 at Focht Instructional Support Center.  His office hours are Monday-Friday from 8:00 am - 3:30 pm. 
bulletGinger Baerg  is the Online Curriculum & Instructional Specialist for high school math. Her office is in the Wichita eSchool office, room 215 at Focht Instructional Support Center.  Her office hours are Mon-Wed 8:00 am - 3:30 pm. 
bulletMichelle Lay is the Wichita eSchool counselor.  Her office is in the Wichita eSchool office, room 217a at Focht Instructional Support Center.  Michelle's office hours are from 8:00-3:30 Monday and Thursday and 8:00-11:30 on Wednesday.  All high school students will have an initial meeting with Michelle to select courses for enrollment.  She is also available for individual counseling, college transition and career planning.  All Wichita eSchool students, K-12, are welcome to call Michelle or schedule an appointment. 
bulletVicki Osman serves as Site Technology Support for Wichita eSchool.  Her office is room 231 at Focht Instructional Support Center and hours are 8:00 - 4:00 pm Monday - Friday.  Vicki is available for technical support by phone (973-5191), e-mail, and one-on-one sessions by appointment.

What is Orientation?

bulletWichita eSchool Orientation Sessions prepare parents and students to access and use the Wichita eSchool online courses. 
bulletOrientation is held in August every year so that parents and students have the opportunity to navigate the eSchool courses. 
bulletWichita eSchool teachers participate in orientation to demonstrate their courses and field questions.
