Ideas for implementing Wichita eSchool

Students have an Internet connected computer at home and are able to do course work at home on weekends and evenings. They only need to take their semester finals at school so they can be monitored. |

Students are assigned an hour within their regular school schedule to go to a computer lab to work on their online courses. |
Currently at some Wichita sites, students go to a computer lab and are all taking different online classes during a designated hour in the school’s schedule. There is an adult facilitator in the lab who helps students stay on task. The facilitator is not teaching the courses, as the online teachers are assigning and grading student work.
Drop in as needed for computer access

Students are assigned to a lab or the library (somewhere that they can get Internet access) to do their online course work. |

Some of the schools in Wichita have students drop in during different hours to their library to access computers and work online. This way, students don't all have to fit into the one hour that a lab is provided with a facilitator. |

Students could even drop in before or after school if an adult is available to monitor the student being on campus before and/or after hours. |
Alternative Schools
| In Wichita one of our alternative programs for expelled students uses online courses as their curriculum. These students actually meet daily with district teachers and are monitored all day. The online curriculum is just a way for these teachers to have standards driven course work in all areas without having to be experts themselves. |

Students who need course recovery credits. Online courses give students a different way to take courses that they were not successful taking face-to-face. |

Students with full course loads who need a flexible way to add a course to their schedules outside the regular school day. Students who want all the college prep courses and are very involved in music, athletics, debate or other elective classes. |

Wichita eSchool courses provide a way for your school to offer some of the more obscure courses to students in a time of severely decreasing education funds. eSchool allows you to offer courses to students even if enrollment numbers aren't high enough to dedicate a teacher to teach the course. |
